Welcome to trezor.io/start — Start Safely
This presentation walks you through powering on your Trezor® device, completing the initial setup, creating a secure PIN, backing up your recovery seed, and updating firmware. The steps below are designed for clarity and security-first thinking — use them while physically at your device.
Step-by-step setup
1. Prepare — Verify packaging & cable
Unbox the device and verify tamper evidence. Use the provided USB cable to connect to a computer. Always go to trezor.io/start — typing the URL manually or using a bookmark reduces risk of phishing.
2. Power & Initial Prompt
When you power the device, follow on-screen instructions shown on the Trezor’s physical screen. The device displays important prompts; never accept instructions shown only on your computer browser.
3. Install Bridge & Firmware
Follow the on-screen links from trezor.io/start to install Trezor Bridge if needed. Update firmware when prompted — firmware updates include security fixes and should be applied only through official channels.
4. Set a strong PIN
Create a PIN you won’t share. The device masks input and the Trezor screen randomizes the keypad — this protects against keyloggers and shoulder-surfing. Memorize your PIN or store it inside a secure password manager, not adjacent to your recovery seed.
5. Backup your Recovery Seed
Write down your recovery seed on the included card or another offline medium. Store it in a physically secure location. Never take photos or store the seed digitally. This is the single most critical step — losing it risks losing access to funds.
6. Confirm & Test
After setup, confirm by sending a small test transaction. Verify addresses on the device screen before authorizing any transfers. Consider enabling passphrase feature for an additional hidden-wallet layer.
